Nirvana albums include 3 studio, 3 live, and 3 compilation albums. This award winning American grunge rock band. Original members of the rock band included singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and Krist Noveselic the bassist. The group ran through a good number of drummers. The drummer who lasted the longest was Dave Grohl who became a member of the band in 1990. Nirvana experienced unforeseen success and was constantly referred to as the flagship band of Generation X. The group disbanded after the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994.

The first of Nirvana Albums was Bleach, released in 1989 by independent record label Sub Pop. Following that was Nevermind, released by DGC Records. The lead single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit” from the album was a huge hit, plunging the group into mainstream. The third studio album, Utero, out in 1983, further established the group’s audience. Live albums include MTV Unplugged in New York (1994), From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah (1996), and Live at Reading in 2009.

Nirvana received a total of five Grammy nominations before finally receiving an award for Best Alternative Music Performance award for MTV Unplugged in New York in 1996. Several albums were released after Cobain’s untimely death. The two surviving band members painstakingly sorted through Nirvana recordings to compile albums for release. Nirvana Albums that are compilations are Incesticide (1992), The Best Of Nirvana (2002), With the Lights Out Box Set (2004) and Silver: The Best of the Box released in 2005. With the lights out was a mixture of early Cobain demos, live tracks that were recorded throughout the band’s history and uncut rehearsal recordings. So far, Nirvana has sold more than fifty million albums worldwide.
